What's ethical about the clothing and accessories
at Láska by Kerol?
Fair labor practices:
All our products are handcrafted by me, ensuring both safe and pleasant working conditions.
Sustainability of the materials:
Honestly this part is a little bit tricky because as you may know there are many levels to ethical approach in textile industry.
90% of the material used in my design is cotton and about 10% is polyester for functionality. The polyester used is an admixture in the composition of the fabric or reinforcement of cross body bags.
Transparency of resources:
I sourced most of the fabrics for my bag collection from small hobby shops in my hometown of Třinec. Some were thrifted, and others had sentimental value, having been inherited from my grandmother.
According to the sales assistant, the checkered fabrics had been sitting on the shelves for a long time, and she was pleasantly surprised that someone finally gave them a new purpose.
The fact that I was able to support a small shop in my hometown and also use a fabric that is still very functional but could probably considered vintage made me very happy.
Reducing waste:
The official approach to claiming my resources are ethical would be of course using certified fabrics. I do believe it is the best solution especially in mass production as it is important to monitore the working conditions in textile factories. However, I also believe that materials produced before such certifications were available or thrifted fabrics can still be considered ethically sourced to some extent, possibly contributing to waste reduction.
Animal welfare:
I avoid the use of animal products, such as fur, leather, or wool, or ensure that any animal-derived materials are sourced in a humane and responsible manner.
Local and artisanal production:
All products are hand made and produced in small batches. Most of them I might not be able to recreate since the resource of materials are very unique and limited in amount.
